Our story

A case with a second life

Most phone cases are plastic, and most end up in a drawer or a landfill. Shelf-Life cases are made from a plant-based biopolymer that protects your phone in daily use and, at the end of its life, breaks down in a home compost bin instead of outliving you. It is strong enough to shrug off drops, soft enough to feel good in the hand, and honest about what happens next — when you are done with it, it returns to soil.

How it's made

The case is made from a biopolymer derived from plant starches, moulded to fit the phone precisely. The material is strong and slightly flexible, chosen to protect against drops while remaining thin. No dyes or coatings are added in most finishes — the colour comes from the material itself.

How to use it

Snap the case onto your phone and use it like any other. When you are finished with it, remove it and add it to your home compost bin, where it breaks down over time. It is not designed to be composted in a landfill and is best suited to home or garden composting.

Good to know

Are they a medical or health product?

No. They are phone cases made from plant-based materials. The compostable claim is about the material at the end of its life, not about any effect on your health.

Are they compatible with wireless charging?

The standard cases are thin enough for most wireless chargers, and the mag-safe version includes built-in magnets for reliable charging and accessories.

How long does a case last?

A case is built to protect your phone for its normal life — years of daily use. Composting is the last step, when you are ready to move on from the case, not a feature of daily wear.

How do they compost?

At the end of its life, remove the case and add it to a home compost bin. The plant-based material breaks down over time in a warm, active compost — it is not designed to decompose in a landfill.

Are they as strong as plastic cases?

Yes, for everyday use. The material is strong and slightly flexible, chosen to absorb drops and protect your phone. The rugged version adds raised edges and reinforcement for extra protection.

What are they made of?

A plant-based biopolymer derived from starches, moulded to fit the phone. Most finishes use no added dyes — the colour comes from the material itself, and prints use plant-based inks.
